JHP publishes research on human psychological processes and behavior, from basic and experimental psychology to clinical, community and other applied fields. Methodological and evidence-engaged conceptual contributions are welcome. Every article is peer reviewed, published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license with copyright retained by the authors, and deposited with Crossref under the journal's own DOI prefix. Submissions are accepted throughout the year.

What the journal publishes
A submission should make a substantive contribution to understanding human psychological processes or behavior through its findings, methods or reasoning. Applied work is an emphasis, not a requirement for every manuscript; basic and conceptual work need not demonstrate an immediate practical application.
Cognition, personality, motivation and emotion
Basic and applied research on perception, attention, memory, learning, reasoning, decision making, personality, individual differences, motivation and emotion. Experimental, methodological and evidence-engaged conceptual contributions are welcome without a requirement for immediate practical application.
Clinical psychology and mental health
Evidence that improves assessment, treatment and outcomes for mental health conditions across the lifespan: psychotherapy outcomes and comparative effectiveness, trauma-informed care and recovery pathways, diagnostic assessment and clinical decision making, suicide prevention and crisis intervention, patient-reported outcomes, and integrated or collaborative treatment models.
Community psychology and public health behavior
Research that advances prevention, health promotion and community wellbeing through behavioral science: community interventions and participatory research, behavior-change and prevention strategies, health equity and social determinants, public health behavior in crisis and recovery, implementation research and program evaluation, stigma reduction and community resilience.
Health psychology and behavioral medicine
Studies linking psychological factors to health outcomes, treatment adherence and chronic disease management: adherence and lifestyle change, stress and coping, behavioral interventions for chronic disease, pain management and health-related quality of life, health communication and patient engagement, prevention and wellness programs.
Industrial-organizational and workplace psychology
Evidence that improves wellbeing, leadership and psychological safety in organizational settings: workplace wellbeing and burnout prevention, leadership, culture and organizational climate, work stress, engagement and performance, occupational mental health interventions, inclusion at work, and hybrid working and employee resilience.

Who reads a manuscript, and on what grounds
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions rest with the handling editor and are independent of fees, services, memberships, or any role an author holds with the journal or the publisher. The article processing charge is raised only after a manuscript has been accepted.

What a submission must carry
Psychological contributions are assessed for the quality of their evidence, methods and reasoning, and for ethical and transparent reporting. Apply the requirements below according to the manuscript's design. They are set out in full on the editorial policies page.
- Human participants
- Research involving human participants must be conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, and authors must declare Institutional Review Board or ethics committee approval.
- Informed consent and privacy
- Authors must declare that informed consent was obtained from participants, and must confirm adherence to applicable national and institutional privacy regulations.
- Clinical trials
- Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.
- Measures and reporting
- Empirical manuscripts should describe measures and procedures clearly and follow guidance appropriate to their design: CONSORT for randomized controlled trials, TREND for non-randomized behavioral interventions, STROBE for observational research, PRISMA for systematic reviews, and COREQ for qualitative interviews or focus groups. Other qualitative designs use appropriate guidance such as SRQR; mixed-methods reports explain each strand and their integration.
- Data availability
- Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement.
- Competing interests
- Authors must disclose financial or personal relationships that could influence the research. Editors and reviewers recuse themselves from any submission in which they hold a competing interest.
- Originality
- Submissions are screened with Crossref Similarity Check, powered by iThenticate. Manuscripts must be the authors' original work, with attribution for all sources and permission for material reproduced from elsewhere.
- Corrections and retractions
- Errors identified after publication are addressed through a published erratum or corrigendum, and articles may be retracted in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Readers may reuse the work, including commercially, provided the original is attributed. The Journal of Human Psychology welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians and practitioner teams working across basic and applied human psychology. The instructions for authors carry the manuscript requirements for each format, the reporting expectations, and the checklist to work through before submitting.
