Open Access Publishing Rights
Authors retain copyright while granting broad distribution rights to maximize the impact of their dental research.
Authors retain full copyright ownership of their published work in JDOI. By submitting to JDOI, authors grant the journal the right to publish and distribute the work under an open access license. This arrangement ensures authors maintain intellectual property rights while allowing unrestricted access to their research.
All articles published in JDOI are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license allows:
- Share: Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
- Adapt: Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose
- Commercial Use: Use for commercial purposes is permitted
- Attribution: Appropriate credit must be given to original authors
What This Means for Authors
The CC BY 4.0 license maximizes the reach and impact of your dental research. Anyone can read, download, share, and build upon your work, as long as they provide proper attribution. This promotes scientific advancement while ensuring you receive credit for your contributions.
As a JDOI author, you retain the following rights:
- Full copyright ownership of your work
- Right to post preprints and postprints
- Right to present work at conferences
- Right to include work in your thesis or dissertation
- Right to reuse figures and data in future publications
- Right to use content for teaching and educational purposes
Authors must ensure they have obtained necessary permissions for any third-party content included in their manuscript. This includes figures, tables, and clinical images from other sources. Copyright clearance documentation should be available upon request.
Upon acceptance, corresponding authors sign a license agreement granting JDOI the non-exclusive right to publish and distribute the work under CC BY 4.0. This agreement confirms original authorship, ethical compliance, and that no conflicting prior agreements exist.
When citing or reusing JDOI content, users should provide appropriate attribution including author names, article title, journal name, volume, page numbers, DOI, and license information. This ensures proper credit flows to original researchers.

Some authors are required by their funders to make their research publicly available. Under the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy, Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication on or after July 1, 2025, must be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance and made publicly available without embargo on the official date of publication.
What JDOI provides: JDOI publishes the Version of Record under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. The journal also permits authors to deposit their Author Accepted Manuscript in funder-designated repositories. Upon acceptance, we confirm the accepted manuscript version and record the funder and grant information supplied by the authors.
Author responsibility: JDOI does not currently deposit manuscripts in PubMed Central on behalf of authors. Authors are responsible for determining which funder requirements apply, initiating the appropriate repository submission and completing any required NIHMS approval steps.
Eligibility and successful processing through PubMed Central or NIHMS are determined according to the relevant funder and NIH/NLM requirements.
Important: The deposit of an individual article in PubMed Central may result in that article appearing in PubMed. It does not mean that JDOI is indexed in MEDLINE, included in the PMC Journal List or that all JDOI articles are available through PubMed. The journal's current coverage is listed on the Indexing page.
