APC Overview
JDOI operates under an open access model so dental research and implantology evidence are available without subscription barriers. This approach expands visibility for clinicians, educators, and researchers worldwide.
APCs support peer review coordination, production, DOI registration, and indexing workflows, and support deposit of published content for long-term preservation. Fees are assessed only after acceptance, and there are no submission or page charges.
Why Open Access Matters
Open access removes barriers for practitioners who need evidence-based guidance at the point of care. It also allows researchers to share findings rapidly across regions, including settings with limited library access.
Funding agencies increasingly require open access compliance. Publishing in JDOI helps authors meet these expectations while ensuring their work remains discoverable and reusable under a CC BY 4.0 license.
Standard APC
The Article Processing Charge is applied only after acceptance. There are no submission fees or page charges.
The standard APC for JDOI is listed below.
| Article Type | APC (USD) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| All article types | $1800 | Payable after acceptance |
What the APC Covers
- Editorial assessment and peer review management
- Professional copyediting and typesetting
- Crossref DOI registration and metadata updates
- Online hosting, archiving, and indexing submissions
- Quality checks for ethics, plagiarism, and data statements
- Author support across revisions and proofing
Value for Authors and Institutions
APCs support transparent editorial processes, structured metadata, and timely publication. This helps institutions track outputs, funders verify compliance, and clinicians access validated evidence.
JDOI provides clean, citable records that strengthen author visibility and improve downstream impact tracking.
APC Transparency
JDOI is committed to clear, consistent APC communication so authors understand exactly what the fee supports. The APC reflects the full publishing lifecycle, from rigorous peer review through production and deposit for long-term preservation.
APCs do not influence acceptance decisions. Editorial outcomes are based on scientific quality, clinical relevance, and adherence to journal scope.
Waivers and discounts
Ability to pay is not a barrier to publishing with JDOI. Waiver and discount decisions are made by the editorial office independently of peer review; editors and reviewers do not see waiver status when assessing a manuscript.
- Authors in low- and lower-middle-income economies — partial waivers, assessed case by case according to need.
- Students — a reduced flat student rate, currently around US$540, on presentation of a valid student ID.
- Editors and reviewers — a discount of up to 30%. Not combinable with other waivers or discounts.
Request a waiver or discount before or at the point of submission by emailing the editorial office with your manuscript title, your affiliation and the basis of the request. Requesting a waiver has no bearing on whether your manuscript is accepted.
If you withdraw a manuscript
You may withdraw a manuscript at any time. There is no charge if you withdraw before we have invited external reviewers.
Once reviewers have been invited, a flat withdrawal charge of US$150 applies. This covers the editorial and administrative work already carried out. It is the only charge that can arise before acceptance, and we will tell you when your manuscript reaches that stage.
Membership and Institutional Support
Institutions or departments can support multiple submissions through membership or payment coordination. This simplifies billing and reduces administrative steps for authors.
If your institution requires a quote, invoice, or documentation for reimbursement, the editorial office can provide the necessary materials.
- Centralized invoicing for institutions
- Documentation for grant or departmental reimbursement
- Flexible payment coordination for multi-author teams
Funding and Compliance
Many funders require open access and clear licensing language. JDOI provides documentation to support grant reporting and compliance workflows.
If your institution requires specific wording for reimbursement or audits, the editorial office can assist with templates.
Payment Workflow
The editor issues the acceptance decision independently of any fee. An invoice is issued after acceptance. Authors are asked to confirm payment arrangements with the editorial office; contact us if you need additional time or documentation for institutional processing.
Payment Options
Invoices include payment instructions and contact details for billing questions. Institutional or third-party payments are accepted with proper documentation.
If multiple authors share funding responsibilities, coordinate with the editorial office so payment is processed smoothly.
Processing Timeline Notes
Timelines depend on author responsiveness during proofing and the complexity of figures or supplementary materials. Prompt proof approval helps keep publication on schedule.
Authors can speed publication by confirming metadata, affiliations, and funding details during proof review.
Complex graphics may require additional production checks.
Invoices and Documentation
- Itemized invoices suitable for institutional processing
- Payment confirmation letters for grant reporting
- Receipts aligned to the corresponding manuscript
- Support for institutional purchase orders when required
Production and Publication
Once payment is confirmed, the article moves through copyediting, proofing, and final publication. JDOI publishes articles online with DOI registration for immediate access.
Authors receive proofs for approval to ensure accuracy in figures, tables, and metadata.
Submitting elsewhere
If you decide to submit your work to another journal, please let us know so we can close the file. A manuscript should not be under consideration at two journals at once — this protects you as much as it protects the scholarly record.
Budget Planning
Clear cost planning supports timely publication and reduces administrative delays for authors and institutions. Transparent fees build trust with funders and support grant budgeting.
If you need guidance on budget language or compliance statements, contact the editorial office for template support.
APC Planning for Research Teams
Multi-author teams should confirm funding sources before acceptance to prevent delays. Assign a primary billing contact who can coordinate invoices and approvals.
If a funder requires specific budget wording, send the requirement to the editorial office so the invoice and documentation align with institutional standards.
Clear internal coordination reduces administrative delays after acceptance.
- Identify the billing contact early
- Confirm grant or departmental funding availability
- Request documentation for reimbursement if needed
- Notify the editorial office of any payment constraints
APC and Licensing
The APC supports publication under CC BY 4.0, which allows sharing and reuse with attribution. This license improves reach for dental research and supports open science goals.
Authors can cite the license in grant reports to demonstrate open access compliance.
