An Optical Chemical Sensor for Determination of Nickel in Water and Hydrogen Peroxide Samples
Abstract:
Application of nickel in different industries has been developed and so contamination of natural water is a great concern due to its potentially toxic effects on living beings. Therefore, fast monitoring of Ni2+ in aqueous samples is important. In this work, we fabricated a sensitive optical sensor for determination of nickel in mineral water samples and hydrogen peroxide solutions. The optode was prepared by incorporation of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol and sodium tetraphenylborate in a plasticized poly (vinyl chloride) membranes containing dioctyladipate as a plasticizer. The influence of several parameters such as pH, base matrix, solvent mediator and ligand concentration were optimized. Fostering Partnerships between Public Health Functions within Health and Social Services Organizations: A Perspective from the Province of Quebec (Canada)
Abstract:
Health and social services organizations discriminate too much between core public health functions. Health protection actions, services, and programs are often separate from those concerned with disease prevention and health promotion. In this comment, we advocate for more partnerships between all public health functions within health and social services organizations. Stronger bridges between such teams, services, and programs are needed to move forward with a more encompassing and integrated perspective aiming for social justice and equity. In this comment, we support this position with some examples. Comparing Uterine Electromyography & Tocodynamometer to Intrauterine Pressure Catheter for Monitoring Labor
Abstract:
The tocodynamometer (TOCO) has poor sensitivity and specificity in monitoring uterine contractions, especially in obese patients. The intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) can be used to monitor adequacy of contractions, but only after amniotomy. Transabdominal uterine electromyography (EMG) and the TOCO were compared to the gold standard IUPC for monitoring uterine contractions. Forty term pregnant women in labor with ruptured membranes were consented for this study. The root mean square (RMS) plot from EMG signals was compared to IUPC and TOCO recordings for 20 to 40 minutes. A comparison between the total contraction number, frequency, and the difference in contraction peak time was made using Student-t test or ANOVA (P<0.05 was significant).

Hand Grip Strength as A Potential Nutritional Assessment Tool in Long-Term Care Homes
Abstract:
Loss of muscle mass and functionality leads to increased risk for falls and onset of frailty, especially residents of long term care (LTC) homes. Hand grip strength (HGS) is emerging as a promising tool to measure muscle strength and a proxy for functionality. Given its promise as a screening tool, several studies report cut-offs below which measured strength was predictive of risk of poor mobility in older subjects. A scoping review was conducted to examine whether HGS was currently being used in LTC, as studies demonstrate hand grip strength as positively correlated with activities of daily living, implying increased dependence on caregivers including mealtimes. Of 19 published studies in 2015, only two report HGS use. The optimized molecular bond parameters, harmonic frequencies were calculated using B3LYP method with 6-311++G (d,p) basis set.The various normal modes were precisely assigned with thehelp ofTED calculation. The theoretical spectrograms for FT-IR, FT-Raman and Ultra Violet visible. Spectra of the title molecule had been constructed. The ICT was calculated by means of Natural Bond Orbital analysis.
