Food Allergies

Food allergies are a medical condition where the immune system has an abnormal response to food components, typically proteins. This response can range from itching and hives to a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction. Food allergies can be serious and potentially life-threatening and can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Understanding the symptoms, risk factors, and treatments of food allergies is important not only for those affected by them, but also for their family, friends, and caregivers. Allergens can be found in many common foods, as well as in many hidden ingredients and additives, and avoiding them is key to managing food allergies. Accurate labeling of food products and a strong knowledge of what to look for are essential for those with food allergies in order to live their lives as safely as possible.
