Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are a type of primary headache that involve a chronic aching sensation in the face, head, neck, and scalp. They are the most common type of headache, affecting up to three quarters of adults in the United States. Tension headaches are characterized by dull and continuous pain in the head, neck, and scalp. They can have varying intensity, frequency, and duration. In some cases, people experience tension headaches for days or weeks at a time. Tension headaches can also be accompanied by muscle aches, fatigue, and irritability. Treatment for tension headaches can include proper rest, stress reduction, avoiding pain triggers, and over-the-counter or prescription medications.
