Propose a Special Issue

Journal of Colon And Rectal Cancer welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in colorectal cancer research. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements below and contact the editorial office.

A good collection has a question at its center rather than a topic label: a disagreement worth settling, a method worth comparing, or a body of evidence worth assembling in one place.

The proposal

What a proposal should set out

The question
What the collection is for, and why it is worth assembling now. State the question the collection answers, not only the area it covers.
Scope fit
How the collection sits within the journal's remit for colon and rectal cancer, and what it would exclude.
Guest editors
Names, affiliations and relevant expertise for each proposed guest editor, with any competing interests declared at the outset.
Article types and volume
Which of the journal's article types the collection would draw on, and roughly how many articles it expects.
Timeline
A proposed opening date, a submission window and a target for completing review.
Reviewer capacity
How the collection expects to find reviewers with the right expertise, beyond the guest editors' own circle.

Governance

How a collection is run

A special issue is a way of grouping articles, not a separate route into the journal. Manuscripts in a collection are assessed exactly as any other manuscript is.

Review

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Guest editors and independence

Guest editors coordinate review within the collection under the journal's editorial oversight. A guest editor who is an author on a manuscript in their own collection takes no part in its handling; that manuscript is assigned to an independent editor.

Decisions remain independent of fees, membership, editorial roles and paid services.
