Journal of Clinical Case Reports and ImagesCall for Papers
Call for case-based clinical evidence
JCCI welcomes Case Reports, Clinical Images, Case Series and Technical Notes anchored to documented patient care, with a clear diagnostic, management, procedural, safety or educational contribution.
Year-round regular submissions
The Journal of Clinical Case Reports and Images welcomes submissions throughout the year from clinicians, researchers and multidisciplinary teams. Prepare the complete patient record and choose the appropriate core format before submitting.
Authors should submit when the clinical record, patient permissions, images, follow-up and supporting literature are complete. Cases may span medical, surgical and allied clinical specialties, including imaging, pathology, genetics, pharmacotherapy or digital care, when documented patient care remains central.
What the journal is seeking
Diagnostic reasoning
An atypical presentation, meaningful differential or finding that changed the diagnosis.
Management & outcome
A treatment decision, complication, response or follow-up course that carries a bounded clinical lesson.
Procedures & safety
A technical observation, retained material, adverse event or safety signal documented with adequate context.
Clinically meaningful images
Radiology, pathology, endoscopy, microscopy, photography or procedural evidence interpreted with the case record.
Rarity alone is not sufficient. A familiar condition may be suitable when the report contributes a clear diagnostic, management, procedural or educational point.
Eligible article types
- Case Report
- A complete account of one patient's presentation, reasoning, management, outcome and learning point.
- Clinical Images
- An image-led clinical account in which the image, legend and patient context carry the diagnostic or educational contribution together.
- Case Series
- Related patient cases with stated selection, methods, outcomes, follow-up and a careful account of the pattern and its limits.
- Technical Note
- A focused technique demonstrated in a documented patient case or related cases, with sufficient clinical, diagnostic, procedural and safety detail.
Clinical images and patient protection
Figures should be technically interpretable, appropriately annotated and accompanied by the modality, orientation, magnification, stain or scale required to understand them. Image adjustments must not alter the clinical meaning. For clinical video or moving images, confirm supported formats and publication arrangements with the editorial office before submission.
Written consent for publication, de-identification, image rights and ethics information must be addressed before submission. Identifiers must be removed from the manuscript, images, recordings and embedded metadata. De-identification alone does not grant permission to publish; any consent exception requires editorial assessment under applicable policy, law and institutional requirements.
How submissions are assessed
Peer review: Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Editors and reviewers examine scope, completeness of the case history, diagnostic reasoning, evidence supporting the interpretation, image quality, consent and privacy, literature context and whether the conclusion stays within the case.
Editorial decisions are independent of the APC and of any waiver or discount request. No payment, role or service confers priority or an advantage in review or acceptance.
