Biography
Elena Orlova, PhD, is a professor at Birkbeck University of London, where her research focuses on structural biology, electron microscopy, and image processing. She received her doctoral training at the Institute of Crystallography and has made significant contributions to understanding macromolecular assemblies and viral structures through advanced cryo-electron microscopy techniques. Her work spans the structural analysis of bacteriophages, viral assembly mechanisms, and three-dimensional reconstruction methods for heterogeneous biological complexes. Professor Orlova's most-cited publication, "Cryo-EM structure of a type IV secretion system" (2022), has been cited 137 times, and she has authored over 12 indexed publications in leading journals including Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Journal of Virology.
