Biography

Gina Cecilia Pistol is a Senior Researcher at the Institutul Naţional de Cercetare-Dezvoltare pentru Biologie şi Nutriţie Animală in Balotesti, Ilfov, Romania, specializing in inflammation and immunonutrition. Her research encompasses the immunological and metabolic effects of feed contaminants, particularly mycotoxins such as zearalenone, on livestock health, as well as immune cell characterization and signaling pathways in autoimmune and connective tissue diseases. With over 25 indexed publications, her work has significantly advanced understanding of how natural toxins alter gene expression, oxidative stress, and immune mediator production in porcine models, and has explored the roles of regulatory T cells, matrix metalloproteinases, and signaling molecules in systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis. Her most-cited publication, "Zearalenone and the Immune Response" (2021), has received 121 citations, reflecting the substantial impact of her contributions to veterinary immunology and nutritional pathology.
