Soil Biochemistry

Soil biochemistry is an area of study that examines the chemical processes within soils. It is an important part of understanding how soils support the growth of plants, microorganisms, and other lifeforms. Research in this area helps us understand the composition and rates of fertility, nutrient availability, water retention, and soil acidity. This knowledge can be used to develop effective farming and land-management practices, improve crop yields, and reduce environmental impacts. Furthermore, soil biochemistry can be used to understand soil contamination by heavy metals and other pollutants, providing key information on how to manage and remediate hazardous materials.
