Biography
Loredana Marcolongo serves as Ricercatore at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in Rome, Lazio, Italy, where her research focuses on microbial biotechnology and bioengineering, environmental biotechnology, and biomass production and utilisation. Her work encompasses the enzymatic conversion of lignocellulosic materials, including the development of thermostable cellulolytic and xylanolytic enzymes for the saccharification of agricultural and industrial residues such as Arundo donax and brewers' spent grain, as well as applications in anaerobic digestion and biofuel production. She has also contributed to research on marine-derived polysaccharide hydrogels as delivery platforms for natural bioactive compounds, her most-cited publication with 38 citations. With over 13 indexed publications, her expertise spans the optimization of microbial strains and enzymatic processes for sustainable bioconversion and the valorisation of biomass into value-added products.
