Biography

Theo van Laar is a researcher at Delft University of Technology whose work focuses on single-molecule biophysics and the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication and protein-DNA interactions. His most-cited publication, "DNA replication origins retain mobile licensing proteins" (2021), has been cited 39 times and represents a significant contribution to understanding replication licensing dynamics. Van Laar has developed and applied advanced biophysical techniques, including high-throughput magnetic tweezers for probing DNA-protein interactions with high force resolution, and single-molecule fluorescence microscopy to investigate protein dynamics at the single-cell level. His research encompasses the study of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity, replication fork barriers, and methodological innovations such as covalent DNA anchoring strategies to enhance the stability of single-molecule experiments.
