Hip Osteoarthritis

Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by the breakdown of the cartilage cushion between the bones in the hip joint. This can lead to pain and stiffness, decreased range of motion and impaired function. Hip OA is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders, especially among the elderly. Treatment is usually non-surgical and includes physical therapy, medications, or steroid injections. However, in more severe cases, joint replacement surgery may be recommended to improve mobility and reduce pain. Improving patient lifestyle, such as maintaining a healthy weight and participating in low-impact exercises are also important to help manage symptoms.
