Diabetic Foot

Ulcers Diabetic foot ulcers are sores or open wounds on the feet, typically occurring in people with diabetes. These types of ulcers are caused by an underlying combination of neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease, both of which are complications of diabetes. Diabetic foot ulcers affect the quality of life for those with the condition, as well as having the potential to cause serious complications such as infection, amputation or even death. Treatment includes proper foot care, off-loading of pressure from the affected area and proper wound care including antibiotics and debridement. Proper prevention of diabetic foot ulcers is of paramount importance and includes proper management of diabetes, regular foot care and proper footwear.
