Antibiotic Prescribing Practices for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection Among Clinical Officers at Kiambu County

Abstract:

Antibiotics are the most prescribed medications worldwide. Global consumption rose by 65% in 76 low and middle-income countries between the years 2000 and 2015. According to the World Health Organization, improper administration of antibiotics occurs in over 60% of people with upper respiratory tract infections. Inadvertent antibiotic use has been identified as a contributor to antimicrobial resistance. Outpatient antibiotic use accounts for around 80-90% of all antibiotic use in patients. Clinical officers are non-physician healthcare workers who have received less training, have a more restricted scope of practice than physicians. Clinical officers are key service providers in this country especially at the primary healthcare level.

Dynamic MicroRNA-Expression in Plasma of Melanoma Patients Correlates With Progression, PD-L1 Status and Overall Survival

Abstract:

Melanoma treatment has improved significantly with the development of immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI), which has greatly enhanced the survival rates of patients with metastatic melanoma. However, a significant number of patients do not respond well to ICI treatment and experience progression. This highlights the critical need for practical means to track melanoma patients' response to ICI. To address this issue, the patterns of circulating miRNAs were studied in liquid biopsies of melanoma patients. These miRNAs have the potential to provide essential information regarding the cancer stage, progression, and the presence of PD-L1 in tumor tissue. Ontogenes in Drosophila Melanogaster and a Model of Speciation

Abstract:

A new type of mutations-dominant lethals with a facultative manifestation -were discovered in D. melanogaster in 2000. These mutations were named conditional mutations. Under restrictive genetic conditions, the mutations manifest themselves as dominant lethals, whereas dominant lethality disappears under permissive conditions, displaying a set of other manifestations. The genes responsible for the emergence of conditional mutations were named ontogenes. The experiments with mutations in ontogenes have revealed the following processes: (1) genome editing in germline cells; (2) induction of high mutagenesis rates in germline cells of the mutants for ontogenes; (3) zygotic selection; (4) isolation of mutants; and (5) alterations in the lethality of mutants with time. Mammalian Rbm45 is predominately expressed in neuronal tissue and is integral in brain development and neuronal differentiation under physiological conditions. Dysregulation of Rbm45 has been strongly associated with neurodegenerative disorders in humans and can drive hepatocellular carcinoma through reprogramming lipid metabolism. Intriguingly, Rbm45 is an ancient protein, evolutionarily conserved throughout metazoans, including in sponges which lack a nervous system. Curiously, the evolution of Rbm45 gene structure and protein domain conservation across kingdom Animalia is largely unknown. Hodgkin's Lymphoma In Low-Income Countries: Experience Of Togo

Abstract:

While highly curable in developed countries, Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), remains a significant challenge for resource-limited ones. This study aimed to describe the profile of HL in Togo. This was a retrospective, descriptive study conducted at the Clinical Hematology Department of the Campus University Hospital Center in Lomé, Togo. It focused on patient records diagnosed with HL between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2022. Various variables such as age, gender, histological type of HL, Ann Arbor stage, prognostic classification, therapeutic protocol used, and patient outcomes were examined. The annual incidence of HL was 1.5 with a mean age of 38.7 years (range 12-63). Lymph node enlargement was the primary clinical sign (100%). Histologically, classical HL was found in 21 patients (87.5%). Cervical Cancer with The Active And Stable PI3K/MTOR/AKT Pathway In Azerbaijan Patients

Among the reproductive cancers cervical cancer has special place, because the second most frequent cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. The studies suggested that the PI3K/mTOR/AKT signaling pathway is associated with certain reproductive tumors. A lot of research is ongoing for understanding this pathway evidence of its role in promoting tumorigenesis and recent progress in the development of therapeutic agents that targeted PI3K/AKT. In this a single-arm study included 34 Azerbaijan population woman with HPV-negative cervical tumors. The core genes of PAM signaling pathway were analyzed using RT-PCR method.
