Cognitive Behavior Therapy in The School Setting: A Case Study of A Nine Year Old Anxious Boy with Extreme Blushing

Abstract:

Within the field of school psychology there is a gap between research and practice, caused by difficulties in translating the programs from research to the realities of the school setting. Illustrations of real-life cases may help school psychologists gain insight into the application of interventions. The purpose of this study was to describe an example of small group cognitive behavior therapy in the school setting. It concerned test anxiety with extreme blushing. A single subject case study of a nine year old Dutch boy was described. Interviews, observations and questionnaires were used for evaluation, as well as a standard national achievement test. The results indicate that the test anxiety and blushing decreased and on the achievement test three years later, performance was good.  As it concerns a case study, the results are discussed tentatively. Abstract:

General anesthetics (GAs) are widely used for various essential surgical or medical procedures. Recent studies implicate the GAs has dual effects of neuroprotection and neurotoxicity on neurogenesis with unclear mechanisms. This minireview summarizes recent studies on GAs mediated effects on neurogenesis and proposed mechanisms, with focus on autophagy regulation and intracellular calcium homeostasis.

The Antidepressant-Like Activity of the New Tetrapeptide Neuroprotector Kk-1, Homologous of Acth15-18 Sequence (An Experimental Study)

Abstract:

Theaim of study is to evaluate antidepressant-like activity of the new peptidergic neuroprotectoracetyl-(D-Lys)-Lys-Arg-Arg-amide, homologous of ACTH_15-18 primary amino acids sequence, that demonstrates nootropic and neuroprotective properties.

Using Porsolt swimming test (PST) efficacy of tetrapeptide neuroprotector KK-1 at a single dose of 0.02 mg/kg was investigated on 16 white random bred male rats (body mass equaled 180-220 grams). Imipramine (15 mg/kg i.p.) was used as a reference drug. Then depression was induced in these rats by reserpine (4 mg/kg, i.p.). The KK-1 (intranasally, i.n.) and imipramine were administered once a day during 3 days until the reserpine-induced depression was reproduced. Repeat Thoraco-Amniotic shunt placement to treat Fetal Pleural Effusion due to Pulmonary Sequestration

Abstract:

We report a twin gestation with one fetus afflicted by a left sided Extra-Lobar Sequestration (ELS) in a morbidly obese mother. The ELS was complicated by a left pleural effusion in the second trimester unresponsive to maternal steroid administration. We discuss the need for repeat shunt placement, in the setting of maternal morbid obesity and twin gestation. Shunt replacement was necessary secondary to dislodgement. Delivery at 34 weeks gestation was followed by successful surgical removal of the ELS. At one year follow up the infant has complete expansion of the left lung with no morbidity.

Addressing Malnutrition Across the Continuum of Care: Which Patients Are Likely to Receive Oral Nutritional Supplements

Abstract:

Oral nutritional supplements (ONS) have been shown to improve patient outcomes in the hospital setting, but limited results from long-term care or community settings exist. Using electronic health records (EHRs) from 2009 to 2014 for both adult inpatients and outpatients, we compare the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients who received ONS (n = 1,251) with a non-ONS control group (n =25,513). Multivariable logistic regression modeling was used to describe and compare differences in baseline characteristics between the groups including age, sex, race, tobacco use, and comorbidities. We found that patients receiving ONS were older and sicker than control patients. Hospitalized ONS patients were more likely to be admitted from the emergency department and have a hospitalization within the last month prior to the index date. Rate Pressure Product Responses during an Acute Session of Isometric Resistance Training: A Randomized Trial

Abstract:

Hypertension is a major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, responsible for approximately 31% of global mortality. The aim of this study was to examine the hypertensive responses and determine the peak rate pressure product, calculated by multiplying systolic blood pressure and heart rate, during isometric handgrip exercise.

Rate pressure product is a surrogate measure of myocardial oxygen consumption. Hypertensive responses utilising rate pressure product during isometric handgrip exercise have not previously been reported.

A randomized trial was conducted with 60 normotensive and 60 pre-hypertensive participants who attended once for an acute session of isometric handgrip exercise. Participants were randomized into groups exercising at 5%, 10% or 30% of their maximum voluntary contraction. Postpartum depression is a common mood disorder following childbirth. Depression occurring at this crucial stage in a child’s life is known to have far reaching and potentially damaging consequences for the mother, the baby and her family. Whilst a number of risk factors have been identified in the literature as contributing to the development of postpartum depression, including a past psychiatric history and lack of social support, some of these are not easily modifiable through psychological interventions. The aim of this longitudinal study was to examine the contribution of specific psychological factors, including maternal beliefs about motherhood and perfectionism and perceived social support, in the development of postpartum depression.
