Water Pollution

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and ground water by harmful substances, such as chemicals and microorganisms. It can have devastating effects on aquatic ecosystems and can adversely affect human health. The presence of pollutants in water can cause a decrease in oxygen levels, which in turn negatively affects the growth and health of aquatic organisms. Water pollution can also lead to the spread of diseases such as cholera and salmonella, as well as lead to the death of fish and other aquatic life. To reduce water pollution, governments and individuals must work together to reduce pollution sources, clean up contaminated sites, and protect water sources from further contamination.
