Species Colonization

Species colonization is a process of species movement, in which groups of individuals of a given species move into a new area, laying the groundwork for the establishment of a new population. This process is often necessary for a species to maintain healthy genetic variation and to spread to new regions, allowing the species to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Colonization is central to the process of evolution and is a key driver of biodiversity in ecosystems. Species colonization is also important for humans as it can lead to the development of new commercial and medicinal products derived from wild species, as well as aiding in restoring habitats which have been altered or destroyed for various reasons.
