Inflammatory Diseases

Inflammatory diseases are illnesses or conditions that involve inflammation—a condition in which the body's white blood cells and chemicals cause a reaction that results in redness, swelling, and pain. These diseases usually occur when the immune system malfunctions and fails to recognize its own tissues. Examples of inflammatory diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and psoriasis. While their causes and symptoms vary, these diseases all have one thing in common: they can cause significant pain and discomfort.
