Overview

HIV clinical manifestations encompass the wide spectrum of signs, symptoms, and disease presentations that occur in individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus, ranging from acute infection symptoms to opportunistic infections and complications associated with immune system deterioration. While the journal Clinical Case Reports and Images has published limited case reports directly addressing HIV-related presentations, the available literature reflects the complex diagnostic challenges that can arise in immunocompromised states and conditions with overlapping clinical features. One published case examined pseudotumoral central nervous system lesions in Behçet's disease treated with infliximab, a condition that shares certain neurological manifestation patterns with HIV-related CNS complications and highlights the importance of differential diagnosis in patients with immune dysregulation. Another report documented an unusual lingual presentation, demonstrating the diverse oral and mucosal manifestations that clinicians encounter when evaluating patients with various underlying conditions. Understanding HIV clinical manifestations remains essential for healthcare providers, as the infection can affect virtually any organ system and may present with atypical features, particularly in the context of antiretroviral therapy and immune reconstitution, necessitating careful clinical evaluation and appropriate diagnostic workup.
