Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of medical conditions (obesity, high triglyceride levels, low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high glucose levels) that lead to an increased risk for developing diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and other serious health problems. Having any three of these conditions indicates a diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome. It is an important indicator of long-term risk for poor health outcomes. Lifestyle modifications such as healthy eating, physical activity, and weight management can reduce the risk for developing Metabolic Syndrome. Treatment of the individual components can be used to help manage Metabolic Syndrome.
