Agroforestry Systems

Agroforestry is a type of land management in which trees, shrubs, and other perennial plants are integrated into agricultural systems. Agroforestry systems are beneficial to both the environment and to people, providing a number of ecosystem services including soil erosion control, water storage and purification, improved air quality, and carbon sequestration. Additionally, agroforestry systems can provide farmers with income opportunities, such as timber and agroforestry products, as well as a diversity of food sources. With its multiple benefits, agroforestry systems have tremendous potential to improve sustainability and productivity in agricultural landscapes around the world.
