Overview

Pharmaceuticals have become an integral part of modern healthcare, and the increasing demand for more efficient and effective drugs have driven constant advancements in pharmaceutical science and technology. One critical aspect of this field is analytical methods used to analyze and quantify drug formulations, and their degradation products in biological systems. In the advancement of the field of pharmaceutical analysis, the focus is on developing methods that are sensitive, fast, economical, and accurate. There has been significant growth in the development of new analytical methods to precisely measure drug levels in different biological matrices. These methods employ various technologies, including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), and spectroscopy. HPLC has emerged as one of the most promising analytical tools for pharmaceutical analysis. Its selectivity, sensitivity, accuracy, and precision make it an ideal method for various drug quantification needs from high to low drug concentration measurements. Mass spectrometry, coupled with HPLC, offers advantages for characterizing drug interaction in various biological matrices, including plasma, urine, and tissues. These advanced technologies are particularly useful in determining drug stability continuously. This is essential because pharmaceutical formulations can be unstable and lack uniformity. Analytical methods can identify potential impurities, degradation products or byproducts thereby leading to further improvements in drug formulations. In conclusion, analytical methods are continually evolving and playing a significant role in drug development and formulation. More advances and improvements are continuously underway. New technology approaches are being implemented in the design and use of analytical methods for assessing problems related to drug development and formulation. Therefore, it is essential to stay abreast of these advancements as they can lead to better drugs, safer drugs, and much more efficient healthcare delivery.
